UPDATE August 10, 2018: New instructions can be found here

If you purchased a domain from a third-party provider (like GoDaddy, Hostnet, or 1&1) and plan to keep it registered with them, then you have two options to connect it to your new Obior website. After completing these steps, your domain will stay registered with the host that you purchased the domain from, but it will connect to your Obior website.

If you don't have a custom domain yet, you can register a new one through Obior.

Step 1 - Open the domain panel

  • In the menu, click Settings, and then click Domain Settings.

Step 2 - Connect the domain you own in Obior

  • Click the Connect a Domain Your Own button.

Fill in your domain name and click SAVE at the bottom of the page.

Step 3 - Decide how you want to connect your domain to Obior

If the company where you registered the domain offers this option, this is the easiest way.

This is an extra step if you DO use email with your domain (for example info@yourdomain.com). If you don't, skip this step.

You have to transfer your DNS records to Obior. This just takes a minute or two and you only have to do it once.

Here is an article that explains how to do this. When you are done continue with the steps below.

Changing the nameservers:
Login to your registrar and find where you can change your nameservers. Change your nameservers to the following:
Some registrars let you configure 3 nameservers. That's also fine.

Here you can find detailed instructions for some of the most popular providers:

OPTION B: redirect your domain to Obior (not recommended)

Choose this option if your domain provider won't let you change the nameserver.

Provider-specific guides

If your domain provider is not in the list above, follow this two step process:

  1. Redirect http://yourdomain.com to http://www.yourdomain.com. This option is often called 301 redirect. It might look like this:

   2. Go to your DNS settings. Find where to create a new record and create a CNAME record. The record name should be www and it should point to obior.com

It could look like this:
